Training Sessions

Ranger Skills & Training Sessions

Practical, hands-on training opportunities led by regional experts — designed to strengthen ranger skills across conservation, law enforcement, and community engagement.

2nd Asian Ranger Congress · Thimphu, Bhutan · 2–4 December 2026

Overview

Alongside the main congress programme, the 2nd Asian Ranger Congress will offer a series of practical training sessions open to all registered participants. These sessions are designed to build skills that rangers can take back to their protected areas and apply in their day-to-day work.

Training sessions will run in parallel with the main programme. Participants will be asked to indicate their preferred sessions during registration.

Training Areas

Storytelling & Ranger Communication

Helping rangers share their stories and experiences powerfully — from written and oral communication to media engagement and advocacy.

Field Skills & Wildlife Monitoring

Practical techniques for biodiversity monitoring, camera trap operation, species identification, and data management in protected areas.

First Aid & Emergency Response

Wilderness first aid, emergency evacuation protocols, and basic medical response for rangers working in remote field conditions.

Ranger Safety & Security in the Field

Strategies and best practices for personal safety, threat assessment, and coordination with law enforcement agencies.

Mental Health & Wellbeing for Rangers

Recognising and addressing stress, trauma, and burnout — building resilience and promoting long-term wellbeing for frontline rangers.

Community Engagement & Conflict Resolution

Approaches for building trust, resolving human-wildlife conflict, co-management arrangements, and supporting ranger-community partnerships.

Technology & Innovation in Ranger Work

Hands-on training with tools such as GPS devices, digital reporting apps, drone operation, and GIS mapping for patrol management.

Climate Resilience & Adaptation Strategies

Understanding how climate change affects ranger operations and building practical capacity to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Lead a Training Session

Training session proposals are open to ranger organisations, conservation partners, and specialist trainers. This is an excellent opportunity for organisations with practical expertise to contribute meaningfully to the Congress, even if their work falls outside the main thematic programme.

Please note: all training sessions must have direct ranger involvement — either as trainers, co-facilitators, or active participants in the session design. The submission portal will open in 2026.
